    💭 Recipe FAQs

Can I use a different cut of beef?

Yes, you can use other cuts like chuck roast, arm roast, or even brisket for this recipe. Just ensure the cut has enough marbling for tenderness.

Can I substitute fresh green chiles with canned ones?

Yes, you can substitute canned green chiles if fresh ones aren't available. However, adjust the quantity according to taste as canned chiles may vary in intensity.

Can I make this recipe in an Instant Pot instead of a slow cooker?

Yes, you can adapt this recipe for an Instant Pot. Sear the beef using the sauté function, then pressure cook for about 60-90 minutes on high pressure with a natural release for tender results.

    🥣 Storage & Reheating

Storage: Store any leftover shredded beef in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Freezing: To freeze the shredded beef, place it in a freezer-safe container or resealable bag, removing as much air as possible. It can be stored in the freezer for up to 3-4 months.

Reheating: Thaw the frozen shredded beef overnight in the refrigerator or use the defrost setting on the microwave. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop until heated through, stirring occasionally.

    🍷 Wine Pairing

    Grenache

Grenache's ripe red fruit flavors and subtle earthiness complement the sweetness of the beef and the spiciness of the green chile in this dish, making it an excellent pairing.

    👩🏼‍🍳 Top Tips

    • Searing the Beef: Ensure to properly sear the beef roast before placing it in the slow cooker, as this step enhances flavor and texture.
    • Slow-Cooking Time: Allow the beef to cook low and slow to achieve tender, flavorful results—opt for 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high for optimal tenderness.
    • Flavor Balance: Adjust the amount of green chile according to your preference for spice, ensuring a balanced flavor profile that complements the richness of the beef.

    Instructions

    Prepare the Beef Roast:

    • Start by preparing your beef roast. If necessary, trim any excess fat from the meat.
    • Season the beef generously with salt and pepper on all sides.

    Sear the Beef:

    • Heat a skillet or a heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat.
    • Once the pan is hot, add a small amount of oil.
    • Carefully place the seasoned beef roast in the pan and sear it on all sides until it develops a golden-brown crust. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.

    Prepare the Slow Cooker:

    • Slice the onion and place the slices in the bottom of your slow cooker.
    • Transfer the seared beef roast on top of the sliced onions in the slow cooker.

    Add Green Chile and Stock:

    • Pour the green chile over the beef roast in the slow cooker. You can use either fresh or frozen green chile, depending on availability and preference.
    • Next, pour the beef stock over the beef and green chile.

    Cooking Time:

    • Set your slow cooker to cook on low heat for 8 hours or on high heat for 4 hours.

    Shred the Beef:

    • Once the cooking time is complete, carefully remove the beef roast from the slow cooker.
    • Using two forks, shred the beef into bite-sized pieces. The meat should be tender and easy to shred.

    Serve and Enjoy:

    • Serve the shredded green chile beef with fresh flour tortillas, rice, and beans for a complete and satisfying meal.
    • You can also garnish the shredded beef with additional toppings such as diced tomatoes, cilantro, or a squeeze of lime juice for added freshness and flavor.
