    Why You'll Love a Shakerato

Think of it like Iced Coffee from Italy! If you find yourself in Italy, first of all, lucky you! Second, if you order and iced coffee, you're guaranteed to get a few strange looks. Instead order a Shakerato! It's the perfect espresso based drink to have an a warm afternoon!

It's fun to make and very impressive! If you like your espresso straight, then all you need is ice and espresso to make this drink! I like to add fun syrups to the mix! Shake it up in a cocktail shaker (you can also use a jar with a lid) and strain out the caramel colored goodness!

What You'll Need to Make a Shakerato

    • Ice Cubes
    • 1 teaspoon Simple Syrup of Choice
    • 2 Shots Espresso (2 ounces)

    How to make a Shakerato

In a cocktail shaker, add the Ice Cubes, Syrup, and Espresso. Next, put the lid on and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds. The shaker should become ice cold and the mixture should become a light caramel-colored froth. Then strain the liquid into a chilled glass, ensuring no ice cubes end up in the drink. If desired, garnish with a coffee bean, coco powder, or whipped cream.

    FAQ's

    So what is a shakerato?

A shakerato is an Italian espresso drink, often enjoyed on a hot afternoon, that is easily prepared using simple syrup and espresso. When shaken vigorously over ice, the drink becomes extra frothy. This drink is the perfect mid day pickup me up! It's refreshing and full of Italian summer day vibes!

What if I don't have a cocktail shaker?

You can also improvise with a jar with a screw top lid. You can also make this in a blender and you'll end up with a frothy cocktail-like drink that will feel like you're drinking a caffeinated cloud.

What if I don't have Simply Syrup?

It's easy to make and handy to have if you like making cocktails at home. Just boil one part sugar with one part water in a small saucepan until the sugar dissolves. Store in a jar in the refrigerator and you can make yourself caffè shakerato all week long.

    Shakerato variations you'll love!

Spice things up by spiking the coffee with a dash of something alcoholic. Try rum, sambuca, or amaretto.

How about adding some vanilla extract or a twist of lemon zest for something different? Just as long as you add it to the shaker before the hot coffee, which must always come last, you can experiment with additional flavors.

If you really want something indulgent, you could always top your caffè shakerato with freshly whipped cream and cocoa powder.

These recipes pair perfectly with a cold Shakerato!
